Introduction

I love games with story.

But I hate Quick Time Events

I love games with very well fleshed out characters

But I hate Quick time events

Multiple endings are a very definite plus.

BUT I HATE QUICK TIME EVENTS.

When Heavy Rain was First announced, I honest to god thought it would blow, and now that I have it in my hands, I was actually a bit surprised.

I was partially right. Remember, Partially.

All Big reviewers say this is an amazing game. I beg to differ.

This game has 2 things going for it

-Graphics

-Story

And even the story is ridden with plot holes,and pretty heinous voice acting.

I got this game as a “Late” Birthday present.

All I really wanted was a trike.

But I was a bit excited, I was even going to rent it! But Let’s be honest.

You can’t always get what you want.

1. If I wanted Pretty Graphics, I’d watch a pixar movie

One of the big things this game has going for it, is the fact that it looks pretty. But Good Graphics don’t always Ensure a Good Game. And even from time to time you’ll see a clipping issue and some texture pop in. Plus, if you wanted good Graphics, or CG animation, there’s a very good substitute.

It’s called any movie made by Pixar.

There’s not much to say, but this game looks very good, but good graphics don’t exactly justify a 60 dollar price tag.

2. Gameplay? More like tank controls and Quick Time events

Look, any PS3 fan boy can say that Heavy Rain isn’t just quick Time Events.

But any sane normal human being will say it’s filled with them.

And sometimes, there not even quick time events….but……..Slow…..Time…..Events.

And instead of using the analog stick to move, no, that would be too easy.

You hold down R2, and use the analog stick to move in the direction that you want.

Not only is this very awkward to handle a times, but very rarely, do you run. Yeah sure, it’d be pretty strange to run in a game like this, but when you need to get somewhere fast, you take your sweet time.

And the fact that almost every action you take involves a quick or…..Slow time event, This definitely cripples, what could have been a good game, horrifically

What else can I say, Bad Controls and good graphics don’t mix.
What? I lost my son in a mall? Well I better walk when finding him.

3. Where’s a knife so I can chop my ears off

You know you have an average game when the gameplay sucks, but when the voice acting sucks, then that is just plain overkill.

Needless to say, Ethan Mars, Madison Page, and Scott Shelby are voiced pretty well, but everyone else sounds like they graduated from the thespian school a bit too early, if you know what I mean.

But it’s not their fault really, most of the voice actors are British gentlemen, trying to act and sound like an American.

But that raises the question, why not having American actors to begin with?

Call it knit picking, but it annoys the crap out of me when they mispronounce “Origami” and say “Ori-gea-me”

Your probably, wondering, “nah….it’s not that bad”

Well, your wrong, while the lip sync is good, the voice acting just sucks. Plain and simple.

4. Ouch, I tripped over a plothole

Alright, let’s round this shit up, Good Graphics + An interesting story + Horrible voice acting + Horrible game play + A Hit tone of plot Holes= Shit

Look, not every story is as well thought out. But this game has so many plot holes, it just baffles my mind, and with a big knit picker like myself, Here is a good example

Exhibit A: Where in he hell does a retired cop get so much money?

Spoiler Alert, a certain retired Cop is the Origami……I mean……Ora-Gea-Me Killer. Scott Shelby, and when you see him, he lives in a run down apartment, Yet He finds the money to

-Help someone start a night Club

-Buy an abandoned Warehouse

-Apparently buy enough glass fucking bottles to fill that claustrophobic tunnel! (You had to be there)

It’s more odd than anything else, and with that in mind, it really……what’s the word…….un-immerses you from the game, which, kinda makes the pretty graphics forfeit eh?

5.In conclusion

This game is one disappointment after another, at first, After beating it, I was satisfied, but after some thought, No. This game does not live up to it’s name.

Look at Games like Mass Effect 2, that game is beautiful, and has wonderful game play

Look at Fallout 3, when that came out, it looked amazing! and had great game play elements.

This game gets a disappointing 7/10, A rent if your interested.

Otherwise, while it has a very good story, and very great animation, and graphics.

So do Pixar movies.
